A little about me: My background is in writing; I have a BA in theater and writing from Sarah Lawrence College and an MFA in dramatic writing from New York University. So I bring a love of storytelling and story structure to the college essay process (which is helpful because these essays are more story and voice than the traditional academic writing that students are used to from high school).

I spent 16 years working in college access with a nonprofit called College Summit (now Peer Forward), which helps low-income students across the country get into college. As the org’s Senior Writer, I served as an Essay Coach at four-day college bootcamps every summer, helping groups of students write a draft of their college essays.

Since leaving the organization (to move to Asheville where my husband runs a theater company), I started doing college essay coaching on my own as well as working with students online through www.collegetransitions.com; I’m also an essay coach for the Matchlighters Scholarship that is run by www.collegeessayguy.com (CEG) and have done one-time reviews of hundreds of essays through www.collegevine.com. Through my affiliation with CEG, I receive training every year on the latest innovations and methods for college essay writing and I am part of a large community of college counselors and essay coaches who help each other through the process each year.
